Growth

Just like weight training, you will never see growth without utilizing resistance. Resistance is how we grow. Being met with resistance is uncomfortable, so many of us, instead of pushing forward, will give up. Comfort is a lie if you think it’s the answer to improving your life.

There are many forms of resistance in your life from your children, to your lover, your friends, family, teachers, to all of society anytime you speak your truth. The biggest resistance we face is ourselves: Our ego, our limitations, our judgements of ourselves and belief systems that have been in place for as long as we can remember.

A lotus pushes its way through the murky bottom of a pond; its only chance to bloom is to start in the dark. Behind every successful person’s story (at least the countless stories I’ve heard and read), there is at least one really hard obstacle they’ve had to climb out of. Whether they faced adversity from their family, they hit rock bottom, had no one to believe in them or had a terrible accident, they all had one thing in common. They decided that although they faced adversity, they pushed forward. In fact, I believe that because of being met with resistance they are successful. Very much like a hero in a story, the bigger the monster, army, opponent or journey, the more intriguing the story and the louder we cheer for them.

Nothing in life that is worth anything comes easy and without resistance. Behind every obstacle is an opportunity to grow. I am grateful for the obstacles I have tackled in my life and I am ready to push past the resistance I am giving myself. If I want to live a different life, I understand I must live differently. I heard these words in high school, but I understand them today “if you keep doing what you’re doing, you’re going to keep getting what you’re getting”.

I am grateful for my past, it’s brought me to where I am now. I am hopeful for my future and I envision it often. I am aware of my present moment and I am enjoying this beautiful journey.

Do not let anyone (including yourself) tell you who you can and cannot be. Push forward, through the mud, the darkest waters and past the plants and fish who say you cannot, until you bloom! Let your light shine, it will inspire others around you and it gives them permission to blossom as well. When you find yourself in a dark place, realize you are not buried, you have been planted.
